Welcome and thank you for visiting the “After Darkness, Light” website. It’s our hope that it will be a valuable resource for Reformed Christians and those interested in learning more about Reformed theology.

The phrase “After Darkness, Light” comes from the latin “Post Tenebras Lux.” It became the slogan of Geneva during the Reformation and was even impressed on their coins. It later became the maxim of the entire Protestant Reformation.

Our blog is dedicated to the recovery of the light of the gospel and the five Solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura); Salvation by grace alone (Sola Gratia), through faith alone (Sola Fide), in Christ alone (Solus Christus), and for God’s glory alone (Soli Deo Gloria).

We are also committed to the vital importance and relevance of the historical Ancient creeds, Reformed confessions, covenant theology, the sacraments, and infant baptism.

As lay persons, it’s our desire to help ordinary men and women learn about Reformed theology in a down to earth and understandable way.  Our blog posts are written primarily by Anthony Charles and Charles Vaughn, with contributions from Janie Brown and Sarah Perkins.

Charles lives in Oceanside, California with his wife and four covenant children. He is a member in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He has a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Regent University and has two Master’s degrees in Bible and Theology from Westminster Seminary California. Charles works as a school teacher at a Christian school.

Janie lives in Milan, Italy where her husband (Michael G. Brown) serves as pastor of Chiesa Riformata Filadelfia, a mission work of the United Reformed Churches in North America (URC). Janie teaches English as a second language, has a passion for the gospel, as well as the people, history, and culture of Italy. She and her husband Mike have been married for more than thirty years and have four children.

Sarah Perkins is married to Harrison Perkins, pastor of Oakland Hills Community Church, an Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). Sarah has a passion for theology, children, and art. She is also the proprietor of the illustrious Illustrated Theology on Instagram!
